The team from New Directions takes on the Gateshead Recovery Walk

24 July 2017

It was a very early start for our trip to the Gateshead recovery walk but we were eager and raring to go.

Three of us travelled from Newark, leaving at 5.15am and arriving 4 and a half hours later at 9.45. The weather was fair for the day and after a motivational speech from the organisers we set off on our 16 mile walk, full of apprehension as to whether we would complete the course or not.

We walked through a lovely wooded area to start with and then across fields and finished walking into Gateshead by the side of the Tyne.

We had several scheduled stops along the route and were kindly provided with plenty of bottled water to keep us going. We finished the walk 6 hours after setting off and were presented with a certificate of our achievement, we then had a lovely buffet tea before setting off back to Newark.

The atmosphere along the whole walk was brilliant and everyone was enjoying themselves. We met loads of new people and learnt so much about Gateshead from the people that we were walking with. It was a truly fantastic day that we will all remember fondly and we cant wait to meet up with our new friends again, hopefully before next year's walk.
