Putting people first: A new, collaborative model for detox in London

Published on 9th April 2026

Detox services can play a life-changing role in someone’s drug or alcohol treatment journey. Change Grow Live's new partnership approach to inpatient detoxification in the capital ensures people can explore the full range of treatment options and make informed decisions about their next steps.

The London Inpatient Detoxification and Stabilisation Portal brings multiple providers together to prioritise the needs and choices of the people we support. People receiving support anywhere in the city can now view the residential detox options available to them and consider the right setting for their goals and circumstances.

Building on our partnership working

Our work in London builds on the success of the West Midlands Detox Framework and the National Detox Framework, launched in 2022. These initiatives demonstrated how effective a collaborative, transparent approach can be in widening access to detox services, improving consistency, and reducing delays.

Across the West Midlands, our partnership includes 14 community providers and 17 inpatient units. It has supported 1,477 referrals and more than 1,000 successfully completed detox placements.

Helping more people access life-changing detox

The London portal is our newest collaboration. Change Grow Live is the lead provider of a partnership working across 16 London local authorities and bringing together a wide range of inpatient detox and stabilisation services.

Our partners include:

  • ANA Treatment Centres
  • ARC Project
  • Banbury Lodge
  • Bosence Farm
  • Broadway Lodge
  • Liberty House
  • Oxygen Detox
  • Mildmay Hospital
  • Park House Inpatient Treatment
  • Passmores House
  • Phoenix Futures National Specialist Family Service

People in these boroughs can use the London portal with their worker to explore a range of detox services and choose their preferred options. This ensures decisions are shaped by personal goals, not just availability.

We have developed guidance for all partner organisations to support staff to have clear, informed conversations with the people they support and help them understand what each detox setting offers.

The real impact of inpatient detox

One person who accessed detox through our West Midlands framework shared the impact the experience had on their life:

"I struggled the first couple of days and was really craving drink. At day three the cravings started to reduce, and I started to feel better in myself. I enjoyed the sessions at the unit, in particular my one-to-one sessions with my counsellor. I made friends with a couple of people there, I didn’t want to leave on my last day!"

Since I’ve been back home things are great. My relationships are improving, and I’m working again. I’ve also moved back in with my partner. I wouldn’t be here now if I hadn’t had this detox.”

Why detox matters – and why partnership is the future

"Detoxification and stabilisation are evidence-based interventions that provide immediate clinical safety and create the foundations for long-term recovery," explains Claire James, Change Grow Live’s Director of Nursing. "Through the London Inpatient Detoxification and Stabilisation Portal, people are supported to make informed choices and access the right setting at the right time.

"A dedicated coordination team works across the whole system to ensure timely, appropriate placements, reducing delays and avoiding fragmentation.

"Together, this approach offers a clinically robust and compassionate foundation that helps people stabilise their substance use, engage meaningfully with treatment, and reconnect with their communities. Detox is not an end point – it’s a catalyst for recovery, resilience, and hope."
