New Direction - Lewisham

New Direction is a free and confidential drug and alcohol service for adults aged 18+ (including offenders) and affected others in Lewisham.

Our flexible treatment and support service is provided by a friendly team of recovery coordinators, psychosocial intervention workers, doctors, recovery nurses, complementary therapists, volunteers and peer mentors.

How to contact us

We always welcome new clients, so please get in touch if you are interested in getting help from the service or you’d just like to ask some questions. Feel free to bring someone with you on your first visit.

If you would like to refer yourself or someone else to the service you can call, email or visit the service in person. Please note that some postcodes may be covered by our Bromley service, please call or email us if you have any questions or would like to check which service is appropriate for you.

Exterior of the service

We provide:

  • Health and wellbeing clinics for advice, screening and vaccinations for blood borne viruses, such as Hepatitis C.
  • Needle exchange and Take Home Naloxone.
  • Talking therapies that help you build and maintain motivation, understand your use of drugs and alcohol, and make long-term changes for a healthier and safer life.
  • Medically-assisted recovery including access to medical detoxification and alternative medication.
  • Assessments and goal setting including a structured, holistic recovery plan that is regularly reviewed and addresses additional support needs around housing and employment.
  • Support and treatment to manage, reduce and stop alcohol and drug misuse.
  • Advice, guidance and support including access to a key worker on a one-to-one basis and therapeutic and educational group sessions.
  • Family & Carers Service to support people affected by someone else's substance misuse.

Where can I go for further support?

We are located close to Lewisham Hospital, opposite the Islamic Centre. The following buses stop outside the service: 47, 54, 75, 136, 185, 199 and 208.

We are approximately a 10-15 minute walk from Lewisham Station or Catford Stations. Please note that there is no parking on site for service users or visitors (parking is available on nearby roads).

Open access

We operate an open access service Monday - Friday and provide Triage Assessments at the times below. You can just turn up on the day and be assessed or call us to book an appointment:

  • Monday: 10am - 6pm
  • Wednesday: 10am - 6pm
  • Thursday: 10am - 4pm
  • Friday: 10am - 4pm
