We work in a way that suits you – that might be having appointments over the phone or in-person. We offer one-to-one appointments, group work and activities.

Hidden Harm

Hidden Harm is a term used to describe the experience that children and young people face when they live with, or are affected by, a parent or family member's substance use. This is because the harm that they experience is often not seen, or if seen is not recognised as harm. As it is not recognised as harm, these children and young people often do not get the support they need.

Branching Out offer support around Hidden Harm to young people up to the age of 18 who are impacted by someone else’s drug or alcohol use. We offer a range of one-to-one support and activities which aim to help young people. This can include:

  • Developing and accessing support networks
  • Age-appropriate education around drugs/alcohol for young people to better understand parental substance use
  • Exploring hopes and wishes for the future
  • Understanding how to keep themselves safe by developing safety plans
  • Understanding and managing their emotions/feelings
  • Diversionary activities

To find out more and to access the service, you can get in touch using the details at the bottom of this page or fill in the referral form on the ‘Referrals’ tab. A friendly member of our team will then be in touch to talk you through the next step.
