Volunteering

Volunteers are a vital part of our service, supporting paid staff to deliver a service in line with our vision and values.

Working as a volunteer can benefit you as well as the service. It's a good way of giving something back if you or a family member have used the service, or as a route to gaining work experience or enhancing your studies.

Volunteering should be a positive experience; we will provide you with training and ongoing support with a dedicated supervisor.

Get involved

We have various volunteer roles available, including Reception Support, Recovery Support, Outreach Support, Admin Support and Diversity Engagement Support.

The recruitment process

All applicants are asked to complete a short form on our website, this will help us match you to the opportunities we have. If your application indicates that you have the skills and interests, we are looking for, you will be invited to take part in an interview. The interview will involve the Volunteer Lead and other members of the team. It is a values-based conversation and we aim to make this a positive experience for you.

The interview stage

The interview gives us time to get to know you and understand your goals, areas of interest and reasons for wanting to volunteer. Unfortunately, not everyone who asks to volunteer with us is successful. We always aim to give feedback and encourage your potential in other areas. If you are chosen to volunteer with us, you will be required to complete a Disclosure and Barring Service application. Having a criminal record does not automatically stop you volunteering but will need to be discussed and assessed for risk before a decision can be made.

You will be required to attend induction and boundaries training, supported by the Volunteer Lead. There is also mandatory online learning, which we can support you with if you need.

Support and supervision

You will be matched with a member of the team who will be your supervisor while you volunteer with us. Your supervisor will support you to develop and link you in with any training opportunities.

Number of hours for volunteering

You are gifting us your time so, unless stated, the hours can be flexible to times you can commit to, fitting around the needs and hours of the service. Some activities may take place outside of normal working hours - for example, if you are supporting outreach activities in the community.

Training and development opportunities

Your supervisor will provide you with a development plan and you will have access to training provided for staff as well as the online training available through our skills station site.

Claiming expenses

You can claim travel expenses from your home to your place of work, as well as a meal allowance if you volunteer for five hours or more. We do not keep cash on site, so this will need to be claimed through our expenses system. You will be provided with support to do this.
