Katie and Poppy

"Katie was a young person that never really went out anywhere, as she cared for her mum, who had mental health issues and her younger sister. She was quite isolated, and it was thought a mentor would be a significant help to her.

When the match first took place, Katie was a bit unsure and did not know if it was what she wanted.

It was suggested that they went on a visit just to have a chat and let her know, how and where Poppy, her mentor could help her.

The visit went well, and Katie was happy to get out of the house for a while, she said she would like to see Poppy every week as planned.

Poppy told her they would plan what things they could do to help Katie. She took her to the library, and they created a CV, as she said she would like a part-time job to earn some pocket money.

Over the coming weeks, they looked at jobs in her area, and with Poppy’s help, she applied for a few.

Katie’s confidence grew and she looked forward to the visits. Poppy helped her with some interview techniques, which helped as Katie was nervous about going for one.

Katie got a reply from McDonald’s and went for an interview, she was offered a position a couple of days later.

Poppy continued the visits for another 8 sessions until Katie said she felt confident she did not need any more support."
