A caseworker's experience

“Jake was very troubled when he came to us. He was a likeable young person but did not get any support from his parents, he was exposed to alcohol and drugs. He finally got into trouble and was facing a long sentence.

We put in a referral for a Mentor for him. They got on from day one, and there was mutual respect between them both.

The Mentor opened him up to different things he had never experienced before. He attended all his meetings and even got himself on to a Prince of Wales award, which he completed just before covid.

He had continued support through phone calls with his Mentor. After the lockdown finished, he enrolled in college on a painting and decorating course.

His life changed around, and he managed to miss receiving a prison sentence because he worked hard to change.”
