In Your Corner

Find out how In Your Corner is making a difference in young men’s lives, and how others in the sector can get involved.
How In Your Corner works
In Your Corner promotes a healthy and positive vision of masculinity, encouraging young men to boost their confidence, resilience and aspirations, and engage in meaningful conversations.
In a society where hypermasculinity – marked by aggression, emotional suppression and reluctance to seek help – is deeply ingrained, many young men struggle to engage with traditional support services.
In Your Corner changes this by:
- Meeting young men where they are, whether that’s a coffee shop, the gym or out on a walk
- Offering a 14-week programme that combines group sessions, one-to-one support, and meaningful activities chosen by the men we support
- Using trauma-informed, relational practice to build trust and guide reflection
- Focusing on open conversation, connection and community.

We’re asking the bigger question:
Do young men even know what positive masculinity looks like?
– Myka Wilshire, In Your Corner project lead

Activities that matter
By speaking directly to young men, we know they engage better with more informal, activity-based sessions.
From gym sessions, fishing and cricket, to music production and community projects, meaningful activities are chosen to build relationships and attachments to positive, pro-social activities in the community. These activities may help people reconnect with past interests and talents, as well as offering new opportunities many have never had.
By engaging with these sessions, the men can create healthier habits and connections that can continue long after our involvement.

For some of these young men, I think it’s the first time someone has genuinely taken an interest in them.”
– Lowell, In Your Corner team member

The impact so far
- Young men who had disengaged from multiple services are now engaging and sustaining support.
- Early pilots funded by the Ministry of Justice show positive shifts in attitudes and behaviours.
- Participants are gaining AQA awards and life skills alongside improved confidence and resilience.
Working with other services and professionals
Following the significant success of our pilot, we are now:
- Offering training opportunities for professionals in probation, health and social care
- Seeking community partners to deliver and expand positive, pro-social activities
- Developing partnerships to adapt the model for wider services, including youth provision and substance support
- Collaborating on research and evaluation to continue shaping best practice.
