West Lothian Recovery Week 2026 begins with a celebration of connection

On Monday 21st September, West Lothian Recovery Week 2026 kicked off at Livingston Football Club. The event brought together support services, professionals and people with lived experience to celebrate recovery and the connections that support it.

This year’s theme was Connection. It highlighted the importance of relationships, compassion and community in recovery.

The opening event was opened by Angela Constance, Cabinet Secretary for Health and Care. It included a recovery walk around the stadium grounds, led by a brilliant samba band who brought energy and positivity and helped make it a memorable start to Recovery Week.

Local services and organisations were also there with information stalls, giving people the chance to find out more about the support available across West Lothian.

A special moment was the unveiling of a painting created by people who use our services. The artwork reflects the journey of recovery and gives us an opportunity to remember and honour those we have lost through drug and alcohol use. It is also a reminder of the hope and strength that can be found in recovery and in the connections we make along the way.

The event marked the start of a week of activities across West Lothian, including creative workshops, naloxone pop-ups, recovery café celebrations and community events.

Recovery Week gave people, families, services and communities the opportunity to come together, share experiences, reduce stigma and celebrate recovery in all its forms.

Thank you to everyone who helped make the week possible, and to everyone who came along and took part.
