Victoria - Independent Visitor

A photo of a woman smiling at the camera. She has her hair tied back from her face and is wearing a grey t-shirtHi I’m Victoria.

I am 42 years old and a health and safety consultant. I’m married and I have a grown-up son. I saw the post for the Independent Visitor volunteer about a year ago and I decided that I had a lot of spare time that I wanted to give to a child, and for me to stay young and still having fun.

I have supported my young person by listening to what he likes and sharing those events with him. We have a good friendship, and we really get on as people.  I hope my young person enjoys our time together and I can see he is happy and cheerful in his face and mannerisms – I think he looks forward to our days out.

I would say I enjoy everything about my volunteering. At first, I was nervous but now I look forward to seeing my young person as it gives me something to focus on and improves my quality of life. I recently took my young person to a tractor show as he loves tractors, and he told me this was the best day ever. I felt very happy to be able to take him and enjoy the day with him.
