Intelligent Fingerprinting Trial – better, safer drug testing for Norfolk

Intelligent fingerprint testing is a new way for us to carry out standard drug testing. It makes the process easier and more pleasant for staff and service users. It also makes it easier to follow social distancing in our services.

For people who come to us and ask for support, one option is medically assisted treatment. This means we need to know what drugs they have taken so we can prescribe appropriately and not putting them at risk. Previously this has all been done using urine tests or mouth swabs.

Intelligent fingerprint testing is a much simpler process. You place your fingers on a plastic cartridge, which collects a small sweat sample that can be read in the machine to run the test. It takes about ten minutes and is a much nicer experience than having to provide a urine or saliva sample.

We’re testing this in our hubs now where possible. If you’ve had one of our intelligent fingerprint tests, we’d love to hear your feedback. Speak to your recovery coordinator or let us know online.
