Celebrating Pride in London
My name is Rose Brassett and this year I will be representing Change Grow Live at Pride in London. The event takes place on Saturday 6th July and it is the UK’s biggest and most diverse Pride event.
Pride has been taking place in London since 1972 when standing proud of sexuality and gender was a highly political act, and members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender community were often afraid to speak up.
Nowadays, Pride in London is a vibrant and colourful demonstration and celebration, of the LGBT+ community and the LGBT+ rights movement. Each year, Pride in London has a theme for the event, with this year’s being #PrideJubilee - remembering fifty years of activism, protests and victories that have made the Pride movement what it is today.
The event is made up of a parade starting at Portland Place, weaving through central London, and ending at Whitehall. There are a number of stages across Soho, Leicester Square, and Trafalgar Square, celebrating musicians and performers from the LGBT+ community. There will also be community stalls across where charities, local businesses, and larger organisations can promote their work, and show their support for the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender plus community. (LGBT+)
Change Grow Live will be taking part in Pride in London for the fifth year running. This year we are excited to be hosting a community stall in Leicester Square. Our stall will be near to the Women’s Stage – a prime location to engage with attendees of the event!
We will be running an interactive stall, offering information and advice, signposting people to our services as needed, and promoting the work of Change Grow Live as an inclusive organisation.
The event is open to everyone, not just members of the LGBT+ community, so why not come along and help us celebrate recovery, as well as having a fantastic time!
