Peter was referred to the Sova CGL Greenwich Mentoring project in December 2014, for support with developing a social network and building his confidence. Once matched with his volunteer they attended a five week cookery course together, developing a strong relationship and Peter benefited from his volunteer’s similar personal experience. Through attending the course Peter’s confidence improved greatly, noted by Sova and the course facilitator who remarked that Peter had come out of his shell over the five weeks. Peter enjoyed the course and Sova referred him to a second cookery course to attend on his own.

About Sova mentoring
Sova CGL Greenwich Mentoring Project provides unique, specialist mentoring support to young adults at the change, grow, live 17>25 Service. Service users are matched with a mentor from a diverse, committed and fully trained pool of volunteers.
Sova is a charity that works in the heart of communities in England and Wales to help people steer clear of crime and to live healthier lives, something we’ve done for more than 40 years. Much of this is achieved through volunteer mentoring; in the last financial year 2014/15 Sova delivered over 25,000 mentoring sessions with over 800 Sova volunteers.
Volunteer mentors provide one-to-one support on a weekly basis, someone to offer emotional support and practical advice, help mentees gain new skills, confidence and motivation. Mentoring takes place in the local community and mentors can attend appointments, meetings and positive activities with service users.
