Required Role: Seeking volunteers to train to be independent advocates supporting looked after children, or children and young people who have been identified as being in need.
Meet with children and young people referred to the service on a 1:1 basis, and as directed by the project
Maintain principles of advocacy including confidentiality
Operate at all times within the Health and Safety, Safeguarding and Equal Opportunities policies
Complete all paperwork and attend supervision meetings as directed by the project
Attend young people’s reviews as required by the young person
Willingness to attend additional training
Advocates offer support to empower the young person, to express their wishes and feelings and champion their rights. You will be provided with training equivalent to the Level 2 Award in Independent Advocacy, you will be fully supervised and supported gaining experience and knowledge of the basic principles of Advocacy. Our cases arise predominantly in Derby City however, young people frequently live away from their home town and we travel to see them, there is no obligation on volunteers to travel.
