Change Grow Live – health and social care charity

David Bamford

Role:
Director

Has worked at Change Grow Live since: 2008

I have been working in the social care field for over 25 years. This started through volunteering for the Samaritans who I admired for their person centred approach. I went on to work and live in Notting Hill, where I managed a drug rehab centre. I then spent some time working as  a social worker before returning to the substance misuse field. I worked to deliver and manage needle exchange, outreach and dual diagnosis services, eventually becoming Chief Operating Officer for Westminster Drug Project. When we decided to move nearer my partner’s family in the North I joined Change Grow Live to become a Deputy Director. I chose Change Grow Live because I knew that the charity shared my values in terms of focussing on empowering service users. My current role is focussed on creating an effective learning cycle for Change Grow Live which places the service user at the centre of everything we do.

I first became involved with substance misuse as it provided an effective platform for trying to ensure everyone gets a fair chance to express their skills and abilities. The opportunity to see people transform their lives is a true privilege.

There have been many fantastic Change Grow Live moments. Organising the North and Midlands Staff conferences proved very inspiring with incredible performances and inspirational lessons from people in recovery.

The energy, determination and passion of Service User Forums always stand out.
