"I am an Engagement Coordinator so after reception I am the first point of contact for service users. I carry out the triage assessment, which means I work with service users to come up with a pathway to help and support them with their recovery. I always help out the rest of the team as well, so I take one-to-one sessions with service users if their key worker isn’t available and help on reception if needed.
About four years ago I found myself out of work. I’d always wanted to work within recovery services but just didn’t know where to start. So I volunteered with a community recovery organisation and after two weeks I thought ‘this is it, this is what I want to do’. I realised my purpose in life is to encourage and empower people to get their lives back on track.
I got myself a job in a rehab centre and totally fell in love with working with people in recovery. I am in recovery myself, so I have a bit of an understanding of how people are feeling. After about three years I felt like I couldn’t grow anymore. I gave myself a year to get a job with CGL. 2 weeks before the year was up I was offered this job. It was incredible!
I’ve done loads of different things, worked in fast food, worked as a property surveyor, but there’s always been something missing and that’s the reward that you get in a job like this. I feel like I’ve found my purpose in life – I’ve been looking for it forever!
I love what I do on a day to day basis. I actually look forward to coming to work, so I think I’m really blessed.
One of the things about CGL is if you want to grow you’ve got room to grow. I want to grow in my career and I will!"
