"I am one of the Learning and Development Managers at CGL. I have a responsibility to make sure that our workforce are well equipped to keep themselves safe and supported to do their jobs to the best of their abilities. I was originally a store manager for WHSmiths. Back then I’d never heard of Learning and Development as a potential career, but I knew I wasn’t happy in retail – money has never been a driver for me. I started my first job at CGL over eight years ago and straight away I knew this was the right place for me. I’ve met some phenomenal people and seen some incredible journeys. I bounce out of bed when I know I’m going to be training people! In one of my training sessions I ask participants to describe the essence of what is best about their role, and one of them has really stuck with me: “For our service users life can feel like climbing Everest. The support we provide can be the oxygen on their backs.”
