Newcastle to host free festival of music and film
Music, dance and craft-making will be among the attractions on offer at a free family-friendly festival in Newcastle next week, which aims to support people who are recovering from drug and alcohol misuse.
Re-Vive Remix will be held at the Star and Shadow Theatre on Warwick St, Newcastle upon Tyne NE2 1BB, on Tuesday 4 September from 1pm to 5pm. It aims to raise awareness of abstinence-based recovery, promote community re – integration, dispel myths and barriers around addiction and to bring recovery communities together. Drugs and alcohol issues can touch everyone young or old and devastate families. This is a day that will show change is possible and gives hope to other individuals and families affected by addiction.
Revive – Remix has been organised in partnership with Recovery Street Film Festival and Change Grow Live, the charity that helps people to live free from substance misuse. Recovery Street Film Festival focuses on filmmakers who have a lived experience of recovering from drug or alcohol addiction, whether it is themselves or a loved one. Recovery Street Film Festival will be showing films for the first time in Newcastle that focus on people’s experiences of recovering from addiction
In addition to the trailblazing film screenings, there will be live bands, comedy acts, poetry readings and community stalls selling a range of arts and crafts at the same venue.
A spokesperson said: “This festival aims to support people who are recovering from drug and alcohol misuse, highlighting their stories and showing that it’s possible to change behaviour and live life to its fullest. Although the cause is a serious one, our aim is to put on a fun event that can be enjoyed by the whole family. We hope to see as many people there as possible!”
