Southend Treatment and Recovery Service (STARS)

Southend Treatment and Recovery Service (STARS) is a free and confidential service providing help and advice as well as structured interventions for individuals over the age of 18 who have issues with substance misuse in a friendly, supportive, non-judgemental setting.

We offer a range of opportunities including brief interventions, structured groups and PODs. We also have a needle exchange, where you can receive harm reduction advice, blood borne virus testing (including HIV and Hep C), Naloxone training and access to other services.

In addition to our service base, our recovery team provide outreach and engagement within the community to better support you where you live. Please contact us for more information.

How to contact us

We always welcome new clients, so please get in touch if you are interested in getting help from the service or you’d just like to ask some questions. Feel free to bring someone with you on your first visit.

We are based at 25 Weston Road, Southend on Sea, SS1 1AS. You can call us on 01702 431889 or email southend.referrals@cgl.org.uk.

Referral

We have open access times (see 'Contact Us' tab) where you can drop into our service at particular times to complete a triage.

  • Substitute prescribing, including detoxification and personalised recovery co-ordination
  • Psychosocial intervention workshops
  • Counselling / Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
  • Mental and physical wellbeing checks including blood borne virus screening
  • Complementary therapies
  • Outreach and engagement in the community
  • Support for those involved within the criminal justice system (ATR/DRR)
  • Referrals to relevant support agencies
  • Needle exchange
  • Free Naloxone kits and training available

Open access

You can attend Monday to Friday during open access times for assessment, where we will discuss your individual needs and provide appropriate treatment as needed. We always try to triage you on the day you attend. It is possible to complete a referral form online. If you are unable to attend during our open access times, please call us to arrange a more suitable alternative.
