Hospital Intervention Liasion Team (HILT) - James Cook University Hospital Middlesbrough

HILT is a free and confidential drug and alcohol service for adults and young people in Middlesborough. 

We support the introduction of screening, brief psychological interventions, assessment and clinical management of unplanned alcohol withdrawal and provide specialist assessment for those referred.

The team is available at James Cook seven days a week where it has a significant role in supporting the Accident & Emergency department, Acute Assessment Unit and other wards and departments throughout the hospital.

We are based at Ward 1, James Cook University Hospital, Marton Road, Middlesbrough. You can call us on 01642 282522. Referrals are taken from the hospital only.

We provide:

  • Screening (audit)

  • Assessements (both drug and alcohol)

  • Information and brief advice

  • Extended information and brief advice

  • Referrals in to Community Service 

  • Hospital to home detox
