The Change Grow Live Drug & Alcohol Recovery Team (DART) is delivered across the North East Prison estate. It is a free and confidential service for adult offenders, who are 18+ and who have experienced issues with drug and/alcohol use. We provide service users with therapeutic support and interventions and also support to those families who are affected by substance use. We take referrals via self-referrals, health providers, prison staff, offender management unit, mental health team and via other prison partnership agencies.
The DART service provides recovery coordination, key working, brief & recovery welfare interventions, structured programmes, awareness sessions, pre & post release support, peer mentor support, mutual aid provision, family work, onward referral and advice & guidance. DART works in partnership with Prison Health colleagues and prison establishments to support positive outcomes for those in our care.
The DART service delivers a strength based approach to encourage & motivate individuals to work towards and/or sustain their recovery progress. The service believes that a person centred & holistic approach can support the individuals “road to recovery”.
The concept of recovery lies at the heart of what we do. This means supporting individuals to overcome problems and issues and helping them to work towards independence and positive lifestyles. We encourage our service users to plan & design their own recovery journey to rebuild confidence, social skills & networks to continue their recovery journey in the community.
