Louise Beech, a volunteer for our subsidiary company Sova, recounts the experiences that led her to write her latest novel.
In October 2007 we had approximately 200 volunteers and now we have over 1000!
Volunteering has been integral to CGL for decades. The power of peer to peer support has been a founding principle of most of our services.
At change, grow, live (CGL) we truly value our volunteers. Sometimes people think that because volunteering is unpaid you won’t learn any new skills or the roles you’ll be given are very basic, but that is so far from the truth. We treat our volunteers in exactly the same way as our staff – so that means a dedicated supervisor to provide guidance; monthly one-to-one supervisions to discuss overall wellbeing and progression; comprehensive training both before and during the placement; and the opportunity at some of our projects to gain nationally recognised qualifications.
